Seconds away to Monivea in Junior cup?

The Energia All-Ireland League resumes on Saturday when Buccaneers host Blackrock College.

The highly attractive fixture at Dubarry Park, Kick-off in this Division 1B encounter is 2:30pm.

Buccs, gave their best display of this season’s AIL, when they surprised third-placed Rock at Stradbrook just before Christmas.

The city side will be smarting from the defeat, meaning they lost valuable ground on the two division pacesetters.

Blackrock will surely be highly determined and more organised for their trip to the midlands; where the Pirates will need to replicate the commitment, discipline and enterprise shown in that morale boosting success.

Buccaneers self-belief has been further bolstered by last week’s hard-earned Cup win.

Danny Qualter led his pack superbly at Rock. If that unit holds their own again and Buccs keep grafting in this manner then they will forge more victories.

Seconds away to Monivea in Junior cup?

Buccaneers seconds Bank of Ireland Connacht Junior Cup fixture away to Monivea last Sunday fell victim to the harsh weather.

Buccs were assured twice on the morning that the pitch was playable before travelling west. However, referee Mark Fitzgerald’s inspection prior to kick-off did not concur with that belief.

At time of writing the where and when of this cup tie has not been decided but it is possible that it could be scheduled for Sunday next.

Buccs were drawn at home for this opening round fixture and also for the next round should they advance. However, as the Pirates did not field in last seasons competition. They were penalised with two away fixtures when they next participated in this Cup.

Both teams are competing in Division 1B in the Connacht League this season. The Athlone club topped the leaderboard at the festive break while the east Galway side is struggling this term.

However, Monivea must not be underestimated, particularly on their own pitch which is likely to be heavy following the near incessant rain of the past weeks.

But Buccs have the potential to progress provided they are focussed and better organised than their recent loss at home to Sligo.
