There was further drama in the ongoing Longford GAA “phantom point” saga as Carrickedmond refused to fulfil a relegation play-off fixture.
Carrickedmond’s appeal to the Leinster council on Saturday morning, saw the original Mullinalaghta objection returned to Longford CCC. The Longford CCC will be reconstituted for the re-hearing.
However, the county senior championship quarter-finals went ahead in Glennon Brothers Pearse Park on Saturday without Carrickedmond. Dromard who benefitted from Mullinalaghta’s successful appeal exiting to Killoe.
However, Longford Slashers and Carrickedmond finished level in the group table, a play-off game was scheduled for Saturday night. That game would decide the line-up of the two relegation play-off finals.
In a development on Saturday evening, Carrickedmond decided not to fulfil the fixture owing to the Leinster hearing result.
Carrickedmond posted on their facebook page: “Carrickedmond GAA has made the decision not to fulfil our fixture V Longford Slashers on the grounds of the Leinster Hearings Committee upholding our appeal today against the decision of Longford CCC.
LHC have requested a new hearing take place with Longford CCC as part of their decision. As a result of this decision it is our opinion that our fixture vs Longford Slashers is invalid.
Our request to postpone the games in light of the decision was rejected by Longford CCC.
Thanks to everyone for their continued support over the last 2 weeks”.
Carrickedmond’s decision throws the Longford SFC into further confusion. Mostrim and Kenagh were awaiting the result of the game ahead of the relegation play-offs on September 27th.
Shannonside Sport, expects further developments in the early part of next week.
