Carrickedmond turned the form books upside down as they scored a two point win over Clonguish.
Last years runners tasted a two point defeat, 2-8 to 12 points, as Carrick registered their first win of this years Longford championship.
Matthew Carey sent over two frees in the opening eight minutes. However, it was far from one way traffic.
Brian Mulvey with a chance of a Carrickemdond goal, denied by a good Joe O’Brien save. Aidan McGuire opened Carrickedmond’s scoring with a ninth minute point.
Two minutes later Carrickedmond in for a goal. Mulvey and McGuire with a good interchange before McGuire fired to the net.
Carey sent over his third free in response, but Carrickedmond grabbed a second goal in response. McGuire catching a hanging ball into the back line, finding space and putting the ball under O’Brien for a goal.
Clonguish responded with two points through Carey, who converted four first-half frees. Ross Shields scored Clonguish’s first point from play on 19 minutes.
Carrickedmond wrapped up the first-half with frees from Mulvey and Eoghan McCormack. Carrickedmond leading 2-4 to six points at half-time.
Clonguish blasted out of the blocks after the restart with three points in a row. Matthew Carey’s six free of the day landed on a minute after the restart.
Whereas, Ronan Dempsey converted well from play as did Cary in the 40th minute to make it a one point game.
Clonguish fight back
Brian Mulvey landed Carrick’s first score of the second-half on 43 minutes. Jamie Dorr fisted a point a minute later in response.
Eoghan McCormack and Mulvey converted frees to move Carrick three clear. 2-7 to 0-10 with six minutes remaining. Cormac Flynn responded with a fast individual point.
Indeed, Substitute Sean Kelly made it a three point game in the first minute of injury time. Carey’s seventh free brought it back to a two point game.
However, that was it and Carrickedmond sealed victory 2-8 to 12 points.
