The effects of Storm Eowyn were felt by Leitrim as Clare scored a 13-point victory in Ennis.
Leitrim have been impacted heavily by the aftermath of last week’s storm. With the counties centre of excellence unavailable to training.
Clare have certainly adapted to the new rules. Two pointers for Eoin Cleary (two) and Emmett McMahon moved Clare ahead. Leitirm’s slow build-ups not so favourable to the new rules.
Clare led 13 points to four at half-time. Barry McNulty the star in the Leitrim forward line with the returning Keith Beirne chipping in.
McNulty led a mini-revival after half-time including points for Keith Beirne and Jack Flynn to lower the deficit to just seven by the 48th minute.
Ikem Ugwueru blasted Clare back on track with a power run and shot to the back of the net in response.
Five minutes later, debutant Even Cahill made a similar breakthrough before offloading to Alan Sweeney for Clare’s second goal.
Alas, Leitrim had no answer as Clare won out 2-17 to 10-points. Leitrim face their rescheduled game with Laois in Ballinamore on Saturday.
