Two minutes later, Roscommon were awarded a penalty after Ben O’Carroll was pushed in the square. Enda Smith made no mistake, coolly slotting the ball into the bottom corner of the net.
Mayo responded with three unanswered points before the visitors got their second goal of the game. Donie Smith pounced on a rebound after 34 minutes to give Roscommon a 2-2 to Mayos four lead.
Mayo opened the second-half scoring with two points Diarmuid Murtagh got another point from a free on 44 minutes.
Kevin McStay’s side cut Roscommon’s advantage to just one point on 50 minutes. However Diarmuid Murtagh added to his talley with two super scores, giving Roscommon a 2-5 to eight point lead on the hour mark.
Mayo disrupted Roscommon’s momentum as Cillian O’Connor got his name on the score sheet eight minutes from time. Diarmuid Murtagh and Conor Cox both got a point each on the 66th and 67th minute respectfully.
It was Enda Smith who got the final score of the game, cementing Roscommon’s place in the Connacht semi-final.
