Colmcille scored a 1-17 to 2-6 win over Kenagh for their second Peter Hanley Motor Longford SFC win of 2024.
Josh Kelly scored 1-3 for Colmcille in the opening 10 minutes for Kenagh. The sides were tied 1-4 to seven points at half-time. Rory Hawkins goal just after the restart set Colmcille on the road to victory.
“We knew Kenagh were going to make it hard for us” explained Colmcille manager Ger Cadbury. “They were unlucky in their last game that they didn’t get something out of it”.
“We had to regroup at half-time, we spoke about what needed to do and done it, winning by two points”.
Elsewhere, Rathcline landed their second victory of the campaign beating Mostrim 1-5 to five points.
The sides were level at three points each at half-time. Indeed, Rathcline’s Cormac Casey was sent-off and Iarla O Sullivan missed a pen also midway through.
However, Oran Kenny’s goal six minutes into the second-half helped Rathcline to their second win of the championship. Whereas, Tiernan Hussey sent off for Mostrim late on with a second yellow.
The Longford championship continues on Sautrday as Longford Slashers face Abbeylara in Devine Park and Mullinalaghta face Dromard in Allen Park. Both games throw-in at 7pm. Whereas, Granard face Killoe in Oliver Lynch Park at 6pm on Sunday.
