Colmcille surprised St. Columba’s Mullinalaghta to setup a Longford senior final with Abbeylara.
Colmcille scored a two point north Longford derby victory as the 2022 champions booked a return to the final.
Mullinalaghta landed the first goal of the game with four minutes on the clock. However, Jack Macken was pushing Colmcille forward.
A free and two from play saw Colmcille trailed 0-3 to 1-1 after 10 minutes. Emmet Brady landing Mullinalaghta’s point.
David McGivenney grabbed Mullinalaghta’s second point of the game with 14 minutes on the clock. Two Macken free’s had the score level after 18 minutes.
Gary Rogers and Paul McKeon exchanged points before McKeon kicked Colmcille into a half-time lead 0-7 to 1-3.
Barry McKeon opened the second-half scoring, but saw his point cancelled out by Jayson Matthew. Cian Mackey and Cathal Reilly exchanged points.
However in another tight Longford championship game it would take 10 minutes for another score. Jack Macken from play and a Paul McKeon free two minutes from full-time saw Colmcille lead 11 points to 1-5.
Niall Woods got Mullinalaghta’s first score for some 15 minutes. However it was too little too late as Colmcille won out 11 points to 1-6.
Colmcille will meet Abbeylara in the Longford football final on October 13th. Abbeylara having got the better of Killoe in Saturday’s semi-final.
