Padraig Pearses missed out on the Connacht senior club title after a one point defeat to Coolrea-Strandhill after extra-time.
The game was in Pearses hands with just moments remaining before the Sligo side grabbed a late equaliser. A goal in extra-time saw Coolrea-Strandhill land the title for the first time.
The Sligo side had the better start. Niall Murphy sending over two early points. Conor Daly brought Pearses level but Aaron O’Boyle restored Coolrea-Strandhill’s opening.
Declan Kenny’s equalised but the Sligo champions responded with two points. Conor Ryan cur the lead to one. Former Dublin player Ross O’Carroll scored Coolera-Strandhill’s fifth point on 18 minutes.
However, here came the Pearses surge. Conor Daly, Jack Tumulty (0-2), Eoin Colleran as Pearses led seven points to five at half-time.
Declan Kenny’s 36th minute penalty pushed Pearses ahead, 1-8 to five points. However, Colleran converted a free to make it a five point game.
Colleran converted a 54th-minute free. However it was Pearses last score of the half. The Sligo champions dug in and Kevin Banks landing a levelling point in the final minute, 12 points to 1-9.
Coolera-Strandhill could have won it in the last minute but Adam Higgins sent an effort narrowly wide. Emmett Kelly could have won it for Pearses but shot wide.
However the game swung in the last minute of the first period of extra-time.
Ross Doherty’s flicked Niall Murphy free into the goal. The first goal PEarses conceded in this year’s championship. The Sligo champions led 1-14 to 1-12.
Substitute Adam Higgins, scored Coolera-Strandhill’s 15th point in the second period of extra-time.
Pearses pulled it back to one point through points from Jack Tumulty and Declan Kenny. However it was Coolera-Strandhill day winning out 1-15 to 1-14.
