Life in division one got off to a losing start as Dublin finished with nine points to spare over Roscommon at Dr. Hyde Park.
Cormac Costello was the difference between the sides scoring 1-13 for the visitors and his first half goal from a penalty helped them to a 1-12 to nine points lead at the break.
Costello had amassed 1-5 inside the first quarter as Dublin led eight points to five after 15 minutes.
Donie Smith chipped in with a hat-trick of scores for the Rossies while Enda Smith and Ciaran Murtagh were also on target.
A subsequent penalty gave Dublin a six point buffer at the first water break and the sides traded 4 points each in the next quarter leaving half a dozen points between the sides at the short whistle.
Roscommon never managed to get within five points of Dublin in the third quarter and a point each from Brian Fenton, Cormac Costello and Ciaran Kilkenny opened an eight point gap with seven minutes remaining.
Mick Galvin’s side then outscored the home side 5 points to 4 in the closing stages and finished with three goals to spare.
