Longford boss Padraic Davis admits the Leinster championship round one game with Carlow is a dangerous game. Longford have always found Carlow a hard nut to crack and Davis is under no illusions of the challenge that lies ahead in O’Connor Park on Sunday.
“It’s a dangerous game for us and if we don’t approach it the right way?” explained Davis 2021 will see straight knock-out championship football once more.
“We have to go there and get a performance and see where it takes it” added Davis.
“You just have to go back three years ago and they dumped Kildare out of the championship, they won division four that year and got a couple of all-star nominations that year”.
Longford had a notable improvement to their season since the opening day defeat to Derry in the Allianz League, however Davis again highlighted contact training time as the issue for the at day one hiding.
“If you don’t have time with your players and don’t have time to work with your player’s you’re going to see what you got against Derry” declared Davis.
“We train and prepare for a reason, it’s a team game, individual programmes will only take you so far” added Davis.
“We were deprived of that during covid and we followed the correct protocols, we’re back together and you can see the improvement in the players, but the acid test is the Carlow game”.
Carlow versus Longford is live on Sunday Sport with throw-in at 4:30pm.
