A seventh NFL title for Derry and a second for Mikey Harte

Derry landed the Allianz League title with a penalty kick victory over Dublin in Croke Park.

In almighty game which finished Dublin 1-21 Derry 3-18 after extra-time. Derry won out 3-1 on penalties kicks.

The game was nip and tuck throughout with the sides going in level at half-time. Dublin 10 points Derry 1-7. Colm Basquel’s 15th minute goal put the Dubs ahead after Derry had gone three points to five.

Shane McGuigan kicking three points for Derry in the first-half. Con O’Callaghan registering 1-2 for the Dubs.

The game picked-up where it left off in the second-half. Shane McGuigan converting a 40th minute penalty in-front of the hill to put Derry 1-10 to 1-9 ahead.

Four minutes later and Derry were in for their second goal. Eoin McEvoy landing a screamer. However, Dublin were Dublin and worked their way back to level terms.

Con O’Callaghan’s equalising with a free four minutes into injury time. 2-15 to 1-18 at full-time.

Extra-time passion

Paul Mannion sent a free wide and Con O’Callaghan shot wide as the dubs gave up scores. Mickey Harte’s side led at half-time in extra-time 2-18 to 1-20. Conor Doherty kicking Derry ahead.

Eoin McEvoy landed his second goal four minutes into the second period of extra-time. Dublin still recovered, even allowing for a Brian Fenton red card!

Greg McEneaney blasted a goal home to level the game in injury time, which signalled a brawl. Paddy Small receiving a second yellow card the result.

13-man Dublin finally were seen off in the penalty shoot-out. McGuigan, Conor Glass and Ethan Doherty all scored for Derry.

While Paul Mannion converted his penalty, misses from Con O’Callaghan, Lorcan Dell and Tom Lahiff saw the cup go to Mikey Harte’s men.

Derry win Allianz league division one with Division two going to Donegal. Three to Westmeath and four to Laois.
