Down will meet Laois in the Tailteann cup final after coming through their semi-final’s in Croke Park.
Down needed extra-time to book their place in the Tailteann cup final after the game finished level, 18 points to 2-12 after normal time. The Mourne men winning out 1-20 to 2-15 after extra-time.
Sligo led 1-6 to eight points at half-time. Patrick O’Connor’s 17th minute goal, seeing Sligo lead at half-time. Canice Mulligan fisted in a second Sligo goal.
Sligo had Nathan Mullen sent-off with 10 minutes remaining as Down edged their way back into the game, forcing extra-time.
Odhran Murdock converted a penalty four minutes into the second period of extra-time as Down won out 1-20 to 2-15.
Laois booked their place in the final after a 3-12 to 1-13 win over Antrim in the first semi-final.
Second-half goals from Kevin Swayne and Brian Byrne saw Laois home after Antrim had made the better start. Antrim took an early 0-4 to 0-2 lead as Colm McLarnon, Dominic McEnhill (free) and Patrick McBride got them running.
However, Brian Byrne burst through the centre to rile in the Laois opening goal on 27 minutes. Laois led 1-7 to 0-7 at half-time.
Patrick McAleer fired in an early second-half goal as Antrim scored an unanswered 1-3.
Indeed, Laois were the stronger of the teams as Kevin Swayne’s punched a goal midway through the second-half. Byrne rattled in a second-goal of the game as Laois progressed 3-12 to 1-13.
Louth book quarter-final place
Elsewhere, a last gasp point saw Louth through to the All-Ireland quarter-final with a 1-9 to 1-8 win over Cork.
Ger Brennan's side squeezed past the Rebels when it looked like the game in Inniskeen was going to extra-time.
However, Sam Mulroy kicked the winning score deep into added time to send the Wee County into tomorrow's quarter-final draw.
Armagh, Dublin, Kerry and Donegal are in pot one for the quarter-final draw. Pot two consists of Galway, Roscommon, Derry and Louth.
Teams which met in the group stage cannot meet in the quarter-finals. E.g. Dublin cannot play Roscommon.
