Daire Doyle has had to tinker slightly with his planning for Friday night’s game with Sligo Rovers and that’s down to Waterford!
The FAI confirmed on Thursday that Sligo had been awarded a walk-over against Waterford meaning that Garry Buckley has now served his suspension.
“We thought Garry Buckley might be out with suspension, but because the Waterford game was forfeited on Waterford’s side then that serves as the suspension” explained Doyle.
“But they have Greg Bolger suspended so that is a big suspension as well” added Doyle.
The Longford boss previously voiced his unhappiness at how Waterford’s games with Drogheda United and Sligo were treated, due to a covid issue in the Waterford camp, but admits what’s done is now done.
“It’s happened that’s what the rules are, we just have to get on with it” declared Doyle. “It hasn’t affected us we have a few players back in”.
Doyle is under no illusions about how tough a test his side face on Friday night as they go up against a team who are second in the table and lost just once this term.
“No doubt about how well Sligo have been going this year” added Doyle, our last game against them was a close fought game so we expect nothing different this weekend”.
“It’s important we pick up the points now, just to put us back in touch with the one or two teams just ahead of us in the table”.
There was some better news for Doyle on the injury front Calum Warfield remains long term injured, Aaron McNally (ankle), Matthew O’Brien and Aaron McCabe are all back training.
“Aaron McNally did a light training session during the week” revealed Doyle, we’re hoping he can start doing more from this week on. It’s looking a lot better on the injury front.”
