Longford Town boss Daire Doyle is looking forward to Waterford and a challenge against Italia 90 legend Kevin Sheedy.
After a tumultuous week were Waterford issued a statement denying Sheedy and assistant Mike Newell had left the club, Doyle is looking forward to the challenge against two of his childhood favourites.
“I grew up watching World Cup 90 and watching Kevin Sheedy getting that goal against England” smiled Doyle.
“And Mike Newell anyone of my age would be familiar with him and his feet’s in the premier league I think he had the quickest hat-trick in the champions league at one stage”.
“There two big names in the game and they’re over here plying their trade now, so it is a really big challenge against their Waterford side”.
While uncertainty surrounded Sheedy’s future at the club, Doyle was adamant the uncertainty wouldn’t change any of his plans.
“No not overly” explained Doyle on Waterford’s management situation. “Their down around us in the league table, but they’re their problems, there’s not much we can really do about it”.
“A lot of games this season have been very close, won by just one or two goals, for them that’s been their case so far”.
“This league is tough, if you make any kind of mistakes or you’re not quiet at it, then you get caught out and maybe that’s what’s happened to them this season”.
While Doyle looks forward for the challenge it’s came too soon for Dean Zambra and Dean Byrne who are both out injured, Doyle hopes both will return next week.
