Longford’s O’Byrne cup title defence ended today following after suffering a 0-16 to 0-5 defeat to Dublin at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park.
Dublin set the tone for a dominant victory in the first half. Dessie Farrell’s men led 0-8 to 0-1 at half-time with Darragh Doherty the only Longford player on target during the opening half.
Dublin were equally convincing thereafter and while the Midlanders showed greater marksmanship in the second half, they still came up short.
Darren Gallagher slotted over two excellent points for Longford during the second half with Doherty and Dylan Farrell adding two more.
Dublin's Lorcan O’Dell was twice denied goals in the dying stages; first he was repelled by replacement Longford goalkeeper Shane Fitzpatrick while his second attempt hit the crossbar.
Dublin now advance to the O’Byrne cup final which takes place on Saturday, 22nd January.
