Dublin marathon announcement delayed until July 15th

Dublin marathon organisers have delayed the announcement on if this year’s marathon will take place.

Organisers were due to announce today if the race would proceed on Sunday October 24th, however that decision has now been moved to no later than Thursday 15th of July.

“We had planned to be in a position to make the official announcement today on whether the event could go ahead” said race director Jim Aughney.

“However, we are still in the process of engaging the relevant stakeholders. Our priority is to bring the Marathon back to the streets of Dublin safely for all involved and we would ask for runners' patience and support at this time while we endeavour to make this a possibility.”

25,000 runners were registered to compete in the 2020 KBC Dublin marathon, which did not go ahead due to covid-19 restrictions, Dublin marathon organisers rolled over all entries to 2021.

However with mass gathers currently only due to move to 500 later in the summer, Dublin marathon organisers have been left in limbo with regard to public health regulations for the October bank holiday weekend.

While a virtual marathon took place last year, Aughney and his teams hope to hold a real marathon to some runners this year.
