Longford opened their Allianz football league division three campaign with a 0-15 to 0-8 defeat at the hands of Fermanagh at Ederney.
Just three points separated the sides on 44 minutes before Fermanagh dominated the remainder of the contest resulting in a heavy defeat for Paddy Christie’s men.
The sides traded two points each during the opening ten minutes before Fermanagh’s Sean Quigley pushed the hosts three points clear nine minutes later.
David McGivney replied for Longford on 22 minutes but the Midlanders subsequently endured a scoring drought and failed to score for another 15 minutes.
Fermanagh landed four points without reply before David McGivney replied on the stroke of half-time where Fermanagh led 0-11 to 0-6.
Longford started the second half impressively and points from David McGivney and Keelin McGann made it a three-point game on 44 minutes.
Any hopes of a Longford resurgence were short-lived though as four unanswered points saw Fermanagh score a comfortable victory.
