Fiachra Henry scored 2-12 as St Michael’s ended a 30-year wait for a Roscommon junior football title by beating Clann na nGael.
Ciaran Kennedy’s side were the superior outfit and ran out 2-17 to 0-9 winners in the end at Dr. Hyde Park.
The opening quarter was evenly contested. Cian Fallon slotted over a point on 13 minutes as Clann na nGael led 0-4 to 0-3.
Clann na nGael subsequently went 16 minutes without scoring. St. Michael’s capitalised by hitting 1-4 on the trot.
Alan O’Hara’s point initiated the onslaught on 15 minutes, Fiachra Henry’s goal 12 minutes later made it a six-point game.
Cian McManus ended Clann na nGael’s drought 60 seconds before the break. A quickfire point from Henry saw St Michael’s lead 1-8 to 0-5 at half-time.
Henry found another gear after the restart. The St. Michael’s joint-captain had amassed 1-12 on 53 minutes as 11 points separated the teams.
Henry added his second goal 60 seconds later, St. Michael’s momentum was briefly halted by Cian McManus five minutes from time.
St. Michael’s finished by landing two of the last three scores to run out 14-point winners in the end.

St. Michael's will face the Galway junior champions in the Connacht championship. Tuam Stars meet Fothaine on November fourth.
