The Roscommon hurlers are off to a winning start in the Nickey Rackard Cup following a 5-19 to 2-7 victory over Armagh at the Athletic Grounds.
The Rossies led 2-5 to 0-3 on 15 minutes. Brendan Mulry found the net eight minutes in before Mickey Joe Egan added a second goal seven minutes later.
Egan registered his second goal in first-half stoppage time as the Rossies led 3-12 to 0-4 at the half-time break.
Eoin McGuinness bagged a goal for Armagh within a minute of the restart but their hopes were dealt a major blow four minutes later when Tiernan Nevin was sent off.
Roscommon moved 19 points clear on 42 minutes when Connell Kennelly added another goal. 11 minutes later, Armagh were down to 13 men when Shaun Toll was sent off.
Eoin Kiernan added a fifth goal for the visitors making it a 24-point game with 14 minutes remaining and while Armagh’s Shea Harvey found the net in stoppage time, Roscommon still won convincingly in the end.
