Killoe Emmet Og reached the Longford SFC semi-finals today with a three-point victory over Abbeylara at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park.
Ryan Plunkett’s men made the better start and led 0-9 to 1-5 at half-time before a strong second half saw the reigning champions qualify for the last four, winning out 2-11 to 0-14.
Abbeylara dominated the opening quarter and six points from the boot of Robbie Smith saw them lead seven points to three at the first water break.
The sides subsequently traded two points each before a Daniel Mimnagh penalty on the stroke of half-time made it a one-point game.
Mimnagh registered his second goal within six minutes of the restart and the reigning champions held onto their one-point buffer at the second water break.
Abbeylara fought back after the resumption and a Padraig Berry score left a single point between them in the first minute of injury time.
Killoe responded like true champions and points from Ronan McGoldrick and Johnny Borland sealed a place in the semi-finals.
