Padraig Pearses secured a second Roscommon SFC title in three years following a 2-8 to 0-11 victory over Clann na nGael in today’s final at Dr. Hyde Park.
Pearses led 0-4 to 0-3 at the half-time break before two second half goals helped Pat Flanagan’s men to a three-point victory in the end.
Pearses made the brighter start and superb points from Niall Daly and Hubert Darcy opened up a three-point gap on five minutes.
Ciarán Lennon was Clann’s only scorer as his hat-trick of points left the smallest of margins between them at half-time.
Three minutes after the restart, the sides were level at five points each but two minutes later, Paul Carey gave Pearses a three-point buffer when he found the net.
Clann subsequently reduced the margin to two points before substitute Jack Tumulty made it a five-point game when he scored the game’s second goal on 58 minutes.
Liam Kearns’ men pressed hard in the closing stages, but the gap proved to be unassailable as Pearses were crowned champions after finishing with three points to spare.
