Roscommon bowed out of the Connacht Senior Football Championship today following a five point defeat to Galway at Dr. Hyde Park.
The Tribesmen recorded a 2-11 to 0-12 victory having led 1-5 to 0-7 at half-time.
The game was tied at two points apiece at the first water break with Diarmuid Murtagh and Enda Smith on target for Roscommon.
Galway could’ve had a slight advantage at the water break only for Peter Cooke missing a goal chance in the 11th minute where he hit the side net.
A goal from Paul Kelly gave Galway a three-point cushion in the 22nd minute before Roscommon fought back to draw level nine minutes later.
A subsequent free from Enda Smith was sandwiched by a brace of points from Shane Walsh helping Galway to a one-point buffer at the break.
Paul Kelly and Donie Smith traded a point each before Galway registered four of the next five scores to lead 1-10 to 0-9 at the second water break.
Ciaran Murtagh and Robert Finnerty traded appoint each upon resumption before Matthew Tierney stretched Galway’s lead to seven points in the 66th minute.
Deep into injury time, Ultan Harney tried to pull a goal back for Roscommon but he was made to settle for a point as Galway finished with five points to spare.
