Granard scored a dramatic win over Longford Slashers in round three.

St. Mary’s Granard remain undefeated after three rounds of action in the Longford senior football championship.

Granard kept their unbeaten record in tact by beating Longford Slahsers 2-13 to 3-8 last weekend.

“You have to hold your hat off to the Granard men,” said Lynch.

“We were dead and buried but we were still fighting away. We got the ball in and got the vital score.

“And then we just got that bit of confidence to push on and just get the winner.”

Jamie Brady Hynes’ goal restored parity before points from James Kiernan and Darren Gallagher sealed victory. Lynch admired his players for showing such tremendous character.

“It was a great finish (the goal), I think it was Jamie (Brady Hynes) that got it but it was great persistence by the team.

“They never put the heads down. Maybe in previous years a Granard team might have gone down on their knees and said we’re not up for it today but not these guys.

“They’re after working really hard, they’re in good shape. And they want to win, they don’t want to be lying down to teams.

“They know they’ve talent themselves and they just want to realise that talent.”

Granard sit atop group one in the Peter Hanley Motors Longford SFC with five points. Dromard also have five points, but find themselves in second place on score difference.

Granard’s next game is in 10 day’s time, but Lynch says they can’t afford to rest on their laurels.

“We have a block of training ahead of us now to get ready for the last two games. We may have a break but we won’t be taking our foot of the pedal, no way!”
