Colin Griffin retains Ballinamore festival 10km title

Olympian Colin Griffin made a successful return home to claim the 2023 Ballinamore 10km road title.

Two time Olympian and Ballinamore man, Griffin in the 50km race walk, showed his class clocking 33 minutes seven seconds for victory.

While, the rain stayed away, the win made it not a day for personal bests.

Griffin was some six minutes clear of second placed Brian Crowe who clocked 39:19. Patrick Prusak of Longford took bronze in 39:33.

In the women’s race Ciara Brady grabbed an impressive win 40 minutes seven seconds. Brady was followed home by Longford’s Edel Nolan in 44:07.

Enniskillen’s Gemma Malanaphy took third place in 44 minutes 59 seconds.

The five kilometre race saw an excellent performance from junior Lukas Lyons.

The young Manohamiliton man, Lyons winning out in 16:43 on a hilly course against the wind.

Longford’s Ross Gannon took silver in 17 minutes 44 seconds with another junior Jack Spain third in 18:00.

Another junior Orla Miney of Annalee took the women’s race in 21 minutes 22 seconds.

Leitrim’s own Michelle McCatin took silver in the overall race and county gold as the race doubles as the Leitrim championship. McCatin posting 22:57.

Marie Prior of DBBAC took bronze in 24:33.
