Longford fell to their fourth defeat of the season as Wicklow scored a two point victory in Glennon Brothers Pearse Park.
Wicklow won out 20 points to 2-13 to inch Longford closer to the relegation places with just one round remaining.
Longford started well and led by five points in just over the first ten minutes of play.
Goals from Longford’s Jack Dugggan and Darragh Doherty set the tone early on as they made their mark in response to Wicklow’s two opening points both scored by Eoin Darcy.
Wicklow scored four points in the space of 10 minutes, Dean Healy, Darragh Fitzgerald, Dean Hughes and Eoin Darcy.
Wicklow went on to score three points before half-time. Longford led 2-5 to nine points at half-time.
Wicklow’s Kevin Quinn put his side ahead for the first time on 63 minutes. Wicklow showed persistence and determination as Eoin Darcy pushed back with two points in answer to the efforts of Longford’s Keelan McGann and Jack Duggan in the 65th Minute. Wicklow leading 19 points to 2-11 with five minutes remaining.
The rapid response of Wicklow’s Alan Dillon to a converted free by Longford’s Darragh Gallagher in the 71st minute would solidify Wicklow’s success.
It would be the final score bt the Wicklow side. Longford just within earshot of victory tried in vain to close their opponent’s two point lead by crafting a final score from Jack Duggan in the 73rd minute.
However time wasn’t to be on their side this game with the final score resulting in Longford 2-13(18) Wicklow 0-20 at full time.
