Daniel Mimnagh played a starring role as Killoe claimed their 14th Longford senior football title by beating Clonguish in the decider.
That’s now six county titles in 12 years for Killoe with Mimnagh claiming the man-of-the-match accolade on three occasions.
However, the corner-forward says individual honours are not his main objective.
“It’s not an award I play for,” said Mimnagh. “I’m delighted to get it but it is a team game. The Sean Connolly cup is the one we want the most.”
And Mimnagh says their appetite for success remains as ferocious as ever.
“To be honest, the hunger never goes away. The next one is always the most important one,” declared Mimnagh.
“Long may they last because that’s up-and-coming Clonguish team, they’re going to be around the block, they’ve a serious under-age structure coming and we’re just hoping we can stay on for as long as we can.”
Killoe have become noted for their attacking proficiency throughout the championship but Mimnagh says their defensive solidity proved decisive in the end.
“We’ve conceded a lot of goals in the last few games. It’s been a target that we had to keep the ball out of the net. That was a massive thing today.
“Last few finals have been a one score game. We’ve won by one point in the last few.
“It’s always dog-eat-dog and thank God we’re on the winning side.”
Attention now turns to the Leinster club championship. Killoe received a bye to the quarter-final against either Westmeath champions St Loman's Mullingar or Wexford side Shelmaliers.
The Longford inter-county player says Killoe are relishing the upcoming challenge.
“Everything is a bonus now. We’d love to go on a fairytale run. We got to semi-finals in 2012 and 2015, it’ll be a tough task against the Westmeath or Wexford champions.
“We just have to go back to the drawing board, get our match-ups right, tactically get it right and be more clinical up front.”
