Bulgaria to travel to Dublin for second leg

Ireland will face Bulgaria in the Nations League playoffs next March.

Heimir Hallgrimsson's team will be at home for the second leg of the tie as they look to avoid relegation to the third tier of the competition. The games are set for March 20 and 23rd.

Bulgaria were second to Northern Ireland in their group in League C. The Bulgarian’s drew twice with Ireland in the 2021 edition of the Nations League.

Elsewhere, the League A quarter-finals draw for the top-ranked nations also took place. Reigning champions Spain will play the Netherlands in the quarter-finals while former tournament winners France take on Croatia.

Germany were drawn against Italy while Portugal, winners in 2019 will face Denmark. The quarter-final stage will take place in March with the semi-finals and final taking place in June 2025.

The knock-on of nation’s league to 2026 World Cup qualifying means Ireland will be in a four team group. With at least one of the Nations League semi-finalists.

Ireland’s 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign will start in September 2025.
