A second-half capitulation saw Kenagh exit the Leinster intermediate football championship at the quarter-final stages.
The Longford champions led 1-6 to 1-5 at half-time but suffered a 3-11 to 1-10 defeat.
Rathkenny settled quicker and landed two scores inside the opening six minutes. Josh Kelly opened Kenagh’s account two minutes later. The sides traded a point each before Cormac McGann’s goal on 17 minutes pushed Kenagh two points clear.
However, Rathkenny didn’t lie down. Oisin Cummins-Fuller’s 27th minute goal, made it a one-point game. Brian Meade restored parity within 60 seconds. Whereas, Thomas McGann’s point on the stroke of half-time restored Kenagh’s one-point cushion.
Rathkenny’s Keith Curtis levelled the game within three minutes of the restart, three minutes later Aaron Johnson registered their second goal.
Curtis gave the Meath side a four-point cushion on 42 minutes. However, Kenagh were thrown a lifeline moments later when Adam Byrne was shown a black card.
Rathkenny had to play the next ten minutes with 14 men. Nonetheless, Eoghan Heavey’s goal on 46 minutes left the Longford outfit seven points down.
Both sides registered three points thereafter as Rathkenny ran out comfortable winners.
