Killoe Emmet Og are the 2020 Longford senior football champions following a two-point victory over Longford Slashers in today’s county final at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park.
The defending champions laid the foundation for the victory in the first half leading 0-8 to 0-5 at half-time before eventually winning 0-13 to 1-8.
Killoe held a two-point lead after the first quarter with Ronan McGoldrick and Mark Hughes scoring two points each while Andrew Kelly registered a brace of frees for Slashers.
The sky blues got their first score from play on 21 minutes through Darragh O'Connell but Killoe still held a two-point buffer at half-time after grabbing three of the next five points.
13 minutes into the second half, Slashers were awarded a penalty which was duly dispatched by Andrew Kelly, leaving just a single point between the sides.
Noel O’Brien’s side levelled the game thanks to a Barry Gilleran point with seven minutes remaining before Killoe responded in impressive fashion.
Larry Moran slotted over a brace of points while Ryan Moffett also got his name on the scoresheet.
Gilleran bagged his second point deep into injury time but Killoe still had two-points to spare at full-time and were crowned champions for the 13th time ever.
