Killoe Emmet Og produced a powerful performance to advance to the Longford SFC final disposing champions Colmcille.
Killoe were always in control, winning out 1-12 to 1-7. Colmcille’s late goal giving a deceptive score line.
Killoe led five points to one at half-time. Having played against the wind on a night not conducive to attacking football.
Mark Hughes the star of the opening half with all five points for Killoe. The sharp shooter converting three frees a mark and scoring one from play.
Jack Macken landing Colmcille’s only score of the half with an 11th minute free. While conditions were not favourable, some 11 minutes were vacant of scores.
Against the wind in the second-half, Colmcille had a mountain to climb, but chipped into it right from the restart.
Colm McCabe with pop shot over the bar moments after the throw-in. Paul McKeon made it a two point game two minutes later.
Denis McGoldrick kicked Killoe’s first score of the half. However, Barry and Ronan McKeon fired over quick points to make 0-6 to 0-5 on 39 minutes.
Game changing score
Cian Farrelly restored Killoe’s two point lead, in what was a game changing score.
Mickey Quinn intercepted a short Colmcille restart, charged through the defence to setup Donal McGoldrick for the opening goal.
Ronan McGoldrick, moved Killoe 1-8 to 0-5 ahead on 45 minutes. Barry McKeon responded two minutes later. Alas, it was Colmcille’s last score for 10 minutes.
Daniel Mimnagh, Mark Hughes (f) and Cian Farrelly moved Killoe 1-11 to 0-6 ahead. Barry McKeon sent over Colmcille’s seventh point of the day two minutes from time.
Cian Dooner sent over the insurance point for Killoe three minutes into injury time. Fergal Sheridan punched a long ball into the net Killoe, alas, it was too late.
Killoe securing a place in the Longford SFC final with a 1-12 to 1-7 victory.
