Killoe land Longford senior championship over Clonguish

Killoe landed the Longford senior football championship with a last gasp victory over Clonguish.

Mark Hughes point a minute into injury time, sent the title to Killoe by one point, 1-8 to 10 points.

In a tight game, the sides were level at four points apiece at half-time. After Clonguish started stronger.

Darren Quinn and Matthew Carey moving Clongiush two points to no score clear after four minutes.

It took nine minutes for Killoe to register their first score of the game. Mark Hughes converting a free-kick. Moments later the sides were level through a massive point from Daniel Mimnagh.

Killoe hit the front for the first time in the contest on 11 minutes. Cian Farrelly sending over an impressive point.

The lead lasted six minutes, Christopher Gordon smashing the ball over the bar to make it three points apiece. Clonguish edged back in front on 23 minutes.

The sides went in level at four points each at half-time, Mark Hughes converting a close range free a minute into injury time.

Just two minutes of the second-half had elapsed when the game swung in Killoe’s favour. Paddy Moran worked his way down the right, sending the ball across goal for Mickey Quinn to put the ball in the net.

Clonguish responded the best way possible with a point from Christopher Gordon. Matthew Carey made it a one point game on 37 minutes.

Killoe restored their three point lead within two minutes, through points from Mark Hughes.

Clonguish brought it back to a two point game on 42 minutes through Michael Flynn. As the game entered its final quarter, Ronan McGoldrick restored Killoe’s three point lead.

However, Clonguish weren’t giving up. Michael Flynn and a Kevin Burke point made it a one point game with four minutes remaining.

As the game hit the final minute of normal time Matthew Carey’s free levelled the contest.

However, there was one final twist left in the story line.

In the second minute of injury time Mark Hughes stepped up to convert a free and win the Longford championship for Killoe.
