Laois, Meath and Down progress too the Tailteann Cup semi-finals after victories over Limerick, Wexford and Cavan

Cavan bowed out of the Tailteann Cup after Down punished the ineffective Breffni in Kingspan Breffni.

Down booked a place in the semi-finals winning out by four points, 1-15 to 0-14. A game where Cavan never led.

Down led by two at half-time nine points to seven with the expected Cavan charge never materialising.

The hosts worked their way back into the game, before being hit on the counter two minutes before the end. Danny Magill found the net, putting Down 1-15 to 0-14 ahead.

Oisin Brady responded with a free, but that was it for the Breffni men.

Rory Mason and Shane Annett added Down scores to seal a 1-7 to 0-14 victory. Down advance to the semi-finals, while Cavan limp out.

Elsewhere, Meath made short work of Wexford in their quarter-final in Pairc Tailteann. Meath winning out 2-23 to 0-12.

Colm O’Rourke’s side had far too much for Wexford and led 1-12 to three points at half-time. Aaron Lynch with the kingdom’s goal.

O’Rourke ran all five subs by the hour mark as Cathal Hickey grabbed Meath’s second goal and Meath won out by 17 points.

Laois staged a dramatic comeback as a late Colm Murphy goal booked Laois their place in the semi-final

Laois winning out 1-14 to 14 points. A very tight and contested first-half, saw Limerick lead 10 points to nine at half-time.

The hosts lead 14 points to nine with 24 minutes remaining, but failed to register a further score.

Colm Murphy found the Limerick net three minutes from time, to inch Laois into the semi-finals.

The final quarter-final see’s Antrim host Carlow on Sunday at 1pm. The draw for the semi-finals takes place on Monday morning.
