Last gasp Mayo break Roscommon minor hearts as they progress to Connacht MFC Final by a last gasp point.

A last gasp point saw Mayo break Roscommon hearts and book a place in the Connacht MFC final.

Tom Lydon’s point three minutes into injury-time secured a 2-13 to 2-12 victory for Mayo in a cracker at McHale Park.

It was heart break for the Roscommon side, in a game neither side deserved to lose that was end-to-end throughout.

The hosts went into a three point lead after nine minutes. Colm Lynch opening the scoring for Mayo after two minutes.

Roscommon replied through the impressive Sean McDonnell two minutes later. Mayo hit two points through Josh Corey and a Tomy Lydon free.

Roscommon came alive with points from Oran Carthy and a fisted point from Ruairi Kilcine. Lydon restored Mayo’s two point lead with his second-free.

Kilcine found the Mayo net on 20 minutes with Mayo responding immediately with a point. Sean McDonnell sent over a free to make it 1-4 to six points on 24 minutes.

60 seconds later Aaron Cox made a brilliant save from Darragh Beirne with Carey fisting the rebound over the bar.

John Curran added a point a minute into injury time as Roscommon led 1-5 to seven points at half-time.

McDonnell added his second free three minutes after the restart, Jamie Betts making it 1-7 to eight points on 35 minutes.

The game turned dramatically with Darragh Beirne flicking a ball to the net for a Mayo goal on 42 minutes. Mayo added a point from the restart.

Josh Carey found Mayo’s second goal of the game five minutes after the first, making it 2-9 to 1-7.

Sean McDonnell converted his third free on 49 minutes followed by a Ryan Hanley point and a McDonnell point from play.

Gavin Foley responded for Mayo making it a three point game with Eoin Carthy’s goal levelling the game with five minutes to play.

Tom Lydon added two points to make it a two point game with two minutes of normal time remaining. Ruairi Coyle and a McDonnell free seemed to send the game to extra-time.

However, up stepped Lydon for his sixth point of the game three minutes into injury time to secure Mayo a place in the Connacht final.
