Leitrim county board chairman Enda Stenson has “no idea” why Mickey Graham stepped down as senior team manager.
Graham stepped down after 64 days in charge, having not managed one game.
“I have no idea” Stenson told the Joe Finnegan show. “Circumstances beyond his control. Myself and the secretary and treasurer met him and talked to him”.
“But we weren’t going to go into any personal things at all” explained Stenson. “What it was it was. We genuinely had him, we were speaking to him the week before”.
“He had spoken to players” Stenson added. “Like training hadn’t started but everyone was genuinely happy with him. It had nothing to do with us at all”.
“We were after getting promotion to division three and we needed a fella who could drive the players forward. I though he was ideal.”
“Its water under the bridge now, we have to look for another person now”.
Stenson added that, the Leitrim county board have made no decision that the new manager should be an internal appointment.
“We don’t have time. Time isn’t on our side at this stage” explained Stenson. “There’s people out there with a genuine interest who want the job”.
“You’re talking about Leitrim, you’re not talking about a flush of money that if you’re going into Kildare or Kerry or Galway or some of those places. We have limitations”.
The Letirim county board have advertised for the role with Stenson explaining the new manager must want to manage the team.
“People have already pointed out Dessie Dolan of Westmeath is free, Paddy Christie that was with Longford is free. But the expression has to be there. If they express an interest it shows they have interest”.
