Leitrim crashed out of the Connacht championship after a 4-20 to 0-09 defeat at the hands of Galway writes Jack Gannon.
Leitrim trailed Galway by seven points at half-time, before losing by 23 points. Galway grabbed the first score of the game after Cillian McDaid coolly slotted the ball over the bar.
Just three minutes later, Donal Wyrnn responded for Leitrim with an excellently taken point. Leitrim would then take the lead with a Ciaran Cullen point after eight minutes.
Galway would then score back-to-back points, before Ryan O’Rourkes free leveled the teams on 11 minutes. Galway added two more points before Conor Dolan got on the scoresheet. Galway led Leitrim five points to four.
The Tribesmen added four unanswered points before Ryan O’Rourke got his second point of the game on 31 minutes. Galway dominated the rest of the half getting another three points to lead 12 points to five at half-time.
Leitrim got off to the worst possible start in the second-half. Patrick Kelly got the first goal of the afternoon.
Riordon O’Rourke replied on 39 minutes with a well taken point leaving the score 1-12 to 0-6. Keith Beirne added another score for Leitrim after two more points from Galway saw the score at 1-14 to 0-7.
Galway would then get eight unanswered scores including two more goals from Patrick Kelly to seal his hat-rick.
Keith Beirne broke Leitrim’s 23 minute scoring duck after he slotted away a point on 68 minutes. Tom Prior also got on the act for Leitrim as he got his first score of the game after 70 minutes.
However, the misery wasn’t over for Leitrim when Owen Gallagher got Galway's fourth goal of the day on 73 minutes.
his would be the last play of the game as Galway would run out 4-20 to 0-09 winners.
Galway will now play Roscommon in the Connacht final. As for Leitrim, they will look forward to right the wrongs of today's performance in the Tailteann Cup.
