A bad week for Leitrim football continues

The bad week in Leitirm football continued as Galway took victory in Cloone as the Connacht U20 championship began.

Leitrim senior’s, conceded their Allianz league game with Fermanagh last weekend, to allow six U20 players more preparation for this game.

However, the crisis continues as Leitirm fell to an 11-point defeat in a game, where they never were close to Galway.

In fact it took Leitirm 12 minutes to open their account. Jack Kelly’s counter attack goal Leitirm’s first score. Whereas, Galway already had eight points on the scoreboard.

Sean O’Connor opened the scoring in the fourth minute with a two point. Single point scores followed from Colm Costello, Sean Dunne, Mickey Mulryan and Eanna Monaghan.

Colm Costello’s ninth minute two-pointer had Galway eight points to no score ahead.

Whereas, Kelly made the most of the counter attack, it didn’t signal a chance in the games pattern. Costello claimed his second and his side’s third two-pointer in response.

Ben Guigan (free) and Jack Kelly got Leitirm on the score-board with points, either side of Ciaran Mulharen’s response.

Galway saw out the half with two further two-pointers through Enna Monaghan and Sean Dunne. Galway led 15 points to 1-2 at half-time.

There was no stopped the Tribesmen from the resumption as Costello added a goal to his tally two minutes after the restart.

Leitrim settled somewhat with points from Darragh Greenan and Paul Honeyman (f). Costello replied with two Galway points.

Guickan converted a free on 50 minutes with Brian Keaney made it 1-17 to 1-6. However, Ryan O’Donnell kept Galway’s scoreboard ticking. Guickan added a point on 55 minutes.

However, Colm Costello landed two (1f) and Ryan O’Donnell one to wrap-up Galway’s scoring. Ben Guickan landed Leitirm’s first two-pointer of the game just before the hooter.

It was scant consolation as Galway won out 1-21 to 1-10.
