Longford opened their 2025 Lidl Ladies National Football League with an impressive win over Derry, while Leitrim fell to Fermanagh.
The big game of the day, the clash between 2024 TG4 All-Ireland intermediate champions Leitrim and last year’s TG4 All-Ireland junior champions Fermanagh.
Fermanagh winning out 3-13 to 2-9 after an impressive first-half display. Goals from Eimear Smyth and Aoife McCabe helped Fermanagh lead 2-5 to 0-6 at half-time.
Leitrim hit back with goals from Muireann Devaney and Róisín McHugh, bringing the gap down to three points. However, Blathín Bogue’s goal sealed the win for the junior champions Fermanagh. Fermanagh winning out 3-13 to 2-9.
Meanwhile, Longford opened their campaign a with a big 18-point win over Derry in Glennon Brothers Pearse Park.
Longford led 2-8 to six points at half-time and built on that after the restart. Niamh Brady landing two goals with Katie Crawford, Ella O’Reilly and Sian Gallagher also finding the net.
Elsewhere, Antrim went on a goal spree defeating Kilkenny by 7-17 to 1-3. Six of the goals came in the opening half as Antrim led 6-10 to 1-0 at half-time.
Lara Dahunsi and Nicole Jones landed both got two goals, while Luisne Adams, Maria O’Neill and Aoife Turley also found the net.
Whereas, Sligo led seven points to a goal at half-time against Wicklow. Indeed, Sligo put the after burners on to run out 1-13 to 1-3 winners.
Saoirse O’Reilly got Wicklow’s only score in the opening half converting a penalty to the net. However, Cara King wrapped up the win for Sligo when she put eight points between them during the second-half with a goal.
