Kildare opened their All-Ireland intermediate campaign with victory over Leitrim in a nine goal thriller.
There were goals aplenty in Páirc Sean Mac Diarmada as Kildare overcame a resilient and plucky Leitrim. The ball found the net on nine occasions.
Neasa Dooley hit a hat-trick, while Grace Clifford and Gráinne Kenneally also found the net for Diane O’Hora’s Kildare side.
The hosts were unrelenting though and goals from Laura O’Dowd, Síomha Quinn, Vivienne Egan and Leah Fox piled lots of pressure on the Kildare rearguard.
The Lillywhiltes did just enough to ensure victory, winning out 5-10 to Leitrim’s 4-8.
Leitrim travel to Louth in round two next weekend.
