Leitrim manager Stephen Poacher says fielding a team to face Fermanagh would not have been “the right thing to do”.
Speaking to Shannonside Sport this afternoon, Leitrim manager Poacher described the timing of the decision to concede the game as “unfortunate” and says it came down to a “duty of care” for his young squad.
Poacher told Shannonside Sport; Leitrim have 12 players currently on the injury list, leaving his side with 16 players available, but with a few members of that 16 man squad returning from long-term injuries.
The Leitrim U20’s kick off their campaign this Wednesday evening against Galway. Six of that squad were due to line out against Fermanagh tomorrow.
Poacher also claimed he wanted to give those players “the best chance” to beat Galway on Wednesday evening.
Poacher's side are due to travel to Sligo next week in the final round of the Allianz League division three, Poacher was hopeful of a fit squad next week, saying “we will do our utmost to have a team on the field next week”.
