Leitrim bolstered their hopes of promotion to Allianz football league division three with a 2-14 to 0-18 win over Laois at Carrick-on-Shannon.
Leitrim were two points clear at the break and prevailed by the same margin in the end. The hosts now move up to second place in the table.
Laois started better and led 0-4 to 0-2 on 12 minutes. Leitrim gained the upper hand within 60 seconds when Keith Beirne found the net.
Beirne pushed Leitrim three points clear on 33minutes. Evan O’Carroll replied on the stroke of half-time where the hosts led 1-8 to 0-9.
Leitrim’s Pearce Dolan registered a goal within seconds of the restart. 15 minutes later Paul Kingston restored parity.
Jack Heslin restored Leitrim’s two-point cushion on the hour mark. Three minutes later, Shane Quinn was sent off leaving the hosts with 14 men.
Four minutes later, Kingston levelled the scoreboard yet again before points from Mark Plunkett and Beirne saw the hosts emerge victorious.
