Leitrim set to embrace the Tailteann cup

The official launch of the new competition took place at Croke Park

Following on from the opening draw for the Tailteann Cup yesterday Longford and Leitrim will have home advantage on Saturday the 28th of May when they host Fermanagh and Antrim respectively. Throw in times for those fixtures is expected to be confirmed by the CCCC over the coming days. While the build up to the start of this competition has been divided in regards to it been a 2nd tier championship Leitrim's Mark Diffley noted they had been realistically looking at this championship from the start of the year.

The format of this years Tailteann cup is straight knock out with the winners from round 1 progressing to the quarter finals where they will remain in their Northern and Southern groups with it an open draw for the semi finals. GAA president Larry Mc Carthy remarked that both the competition and cup are worth winning
