Under 14 Boys All-Ireland club championship finals
It was the turn of our Under-14 Boys to compete in the All-Ireland club championships at the weekend.
25 clubs from all over Ireland qualified for finals weekend through the various regional leagues.
Longford Phoenix were in Group 5 along with Carrick Cougars from Monaghan, Kilkenny Stars and Baltinglass Bulldogs from Wicklow.
Unfortunately, our boys lost all of their three group games.
We lost 27-18 to Carrick Cougars in our opening game. There was only four points between the sides with 90 seconds left on the clock, but Carrick finished strongly to win by nine.
Game two also went down to the wire against Kilkenny Stars. Phoenix levelled the match with a three-pointer with 30 seconds to go, only for the stars to fire in the last two baskets to win by 44 points to 40.
Our final group game against group winners Baltinglass was a one sided affair with the Wicklow team winning by 63 points to 17.
Those results meant that Longford Phoenix were graded in the Division 3 Quarter-Finals and unfortunately we lost to Galway's Moycullen by 40 points to 32.
