Longford were knocked out of the Tailteann Cup following a five-point defeat to Waterford at O’Moore Park, Portlaoise.
Longford were playing with the wind in the first half but the sides still went in level at the break. A superior second-half display saw Waterford win out 4-12 to 1-16.

Michael Curry pushed Waterford two points clear on 23 minutes, 60 seconds later Aaron Farrell halved the deficit.
Longford’s Daniel Mimnagh found the net on 25 minutes. Further scores from Dylan Farrell and Joseph Hagan gave Longford a four-point cushion five minutes later
Stephen Curry replied with a pointed free on 34 minutes. The corner-forward followed up with a goal on the stroke of half-time making it a level game; 1-8 to 2-5.
Jason Curry restored Waterford’s two-point cushion on 45 minutes. Scores from Hagan and Daniel Reynolds brought Longford level within two minutes.
Longford’s Ryan Moffett received a black card on 48 minutes. Waterford won a penalty in the following passage of play.
Alan Dunwoody converted the penalty on 50 minutes as Paul Shankey’s men led 3-8 to 1-11.
Longford rallied again, two points from Darren Gallagher made it a one-point game seven minutes later.
James Walsh restored Longford’s three-point cushion on 68 minutes. Two minutes later, Mark Hughes replied with a score for Paddy Christie's side.
Waterford finished strongly however. Tholom Guiry’s injury-time goal helped the Deise to a five-point victory. Whereas, Longford finish bottom of group one, Waterford require other results to advance.
