Longford are heading for the relegation play-offs of the TG4 ladies intermediate football championship following a 4-10 to 1-11 defeat to Sligo at Boyle today.
The opening quarter was evenly contested as Sligo led 1-3 to 0-3 at the first water break with Sarah Reynolds’ goal separating the teams.
Three minutes later Longford were six points down when Megan McCormack added another goal but Brian Noonan’s side replied with four points on the trot.
Almost 60 seconds later Megan McCormack scored Sligo’s third goal before Emer Heaney replied with one for Longford who trailed 3-3 to 1-8 at half-time.
17 minutes into the second half Leah Duffy found the net from the penalty spot as Sligo now led 4-8 to 1-9.
The teams traded two points each thereafter as Roscommon suffered a heavy defeat and will now hope to retain intermediate status in the upcoming play-offs.
