The Longford ladies footballers tasted defeat in the TG4 All-Ireland ladies intermediate championship today losing 0-7 to 0-6 to Wexford at Clane.
A low-scoring encounter appeared highly conceivable from the early stages with Wexford leading one point to no score at the first water break.
The Midlanders eventually got off the mark thanks to a point from Aoife Darcy on 24 minutes but still trailed two points to one at half-time.
Longford subsequently levelled the game at four points each at the second water break thanks to points from Aoife Darcy, Sarah Shannon and Lauren Maguire.
Grace Shannon moved Longford a point clear with four minutes left only for her effort to be cancelled out by Sherene Hamilion three minutes later.
Extra time looked highly possible only for Caitriona Murray to score the winning point with the last kick of the game.
