The Midlands League and the Longford-Leitrim-Roscommon League (LLR) have both gotten underway writes Tony Ghee.
The under-16 Boys began their division one midlands league campaign with impressive back-to-back road wins.
They beat Larrie Birds of Kilcullen, 55 points to 25 and followed it up with a much tighter win away to Ballyroan Bluestars by 53 points to 45.
Despite starting well, a poor second-quarter, with the team guilty of several turnovers saw Phoenix trailing by five points at half-time.
Phoenix were much more effective in possession in the third-quarter greatly reducing the number of turnovers. Allied to some brilliant scores, the visitors were two points ahead at the end of the third-quarter.
A very polished final-quarter helped the Phoenix boys to a hard earned eight point victory.
The under-16 girl’s midlands league side were well beaten away to Portlaoise. The two Under-16 Girls LLR sides had mixed results.
The Phoenix Fire under-16 girls beat Boyle at home. While, The Phoenix Fire under-16 girl’s fury team suffered defeat to Carrick.
There were also victories for the under-14 and under-12 girl’s teams who both beat their Mohill counterparts.
