The Phoenix Ladies Senior team got their LLR Basketball League campaign underway with a trip to face the Sligo All-Stars.
However, despite playing well, the hosts pulled away in the final quarter, running out winners by 57 points to 41.
Next up for the Ladies is a home fixture against the Mustangs of Castlebar this Friday, November 10th. Tipp-off in the Mall Complex with tip-off is 8:30pm.
The Under-18 boy’s team travelled to Portlaoise College on Saturday for the first-round group stages of the Billy Coffey National Cup.
Phoenix were grouped with Dundalk Ravens, Rathmore Ravens (Cork), and Limerick Lions. Despite beating Rathmore, defeats to Dundalk and Limerick meant the team did not make it through to the next round.
In the Midlands League, four teams were in action against Kestrels of Portarlington and it was a clean sweep for the Phoenix teams. The under-18 boys, under-18 girls, under-16 boys, and under-16 girl’s teams all won against their Portarlington counterparts.
