The Longford hurlers opened their Lory Meagher cup campaign with a convincing 2-22 to 0-10 win over Lancashire at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park.
The hosts got off to an impressive start. Four points from Cian Darcy helped them lead 0-6 to 0-4 inside 18 minutes.
Lancashire’s Eoghan Clifford restored parity six minutes later. Longford replied with four of the next six scores and led 0-10 to 0-6 at half-time.
Darcy found the net from a free three minutes into the second half as the hosts moved seven points clear. The Longford forward registered 1-11 overall in a man-of-the-match display.
David Buckley registered Longford’s second goal on 57 minutes. Darcy subsequently pushed Longford 20 points clear five minutes from time.
Ethan Costello eventually opened Lancashire’s second-half account 60 seconds from time. Eoghan Clifford added another score in injury-time but Adrian Moran's side held on for a convincing win.
Elsewhere, Cavan opened their Lory Meagher cup campaign with a big win over Warwickshire. Whereas, Leitrim fell to Fermanagh.
