The Longford football championship reaches the semi-final stage this weekend.
On Saturday evening, Killoe face defending champions Colmcille, while on Sunday Dromard go up against Clonguish. Both games throw-in at 5pm in Glennon Brothers Pearse Park.
Killoe Emmet Og v Colmcille
Killoe were probably the most impressive team of the group stages in Longford. Rarely threatened and always in control.
The sides met on the opening night with Colmcille off the pace and off their game. The defending champions however quickly pulled things together.
Killoe saw off Colmcille 2-8 to six points on opening night, but a repeat is highly unlikely. Victory over Carrickedmond, Abbeylara, Rathcline and a draw with Mullinalaghta followed.
Killoe to their credit have been the strongest team in the championship.
This one might take a while to decide. If you’re heading along, expect a long evening.
Dromard v Clonguish
Dromard have in some ways been the surprise package of the championship. Winning group one with three wins and two draws.
Matt Duffy’s influence cannot be understated. The Aussie rules bound footballer athletitism in midfield is a driving force.
Clonguish have possibly flatered to deceive. An impressive opening night win over Longford Slashers was followed with defeats to Mostrim and Dromard.
However, Clonguish pulled off a big win in the quarter-final over Mullinalaghta. A six point win in a quarter-final against a big physical team is something to note.
Whereas, Dromard won the group game between the two by one points. A close affair is expected this Sunday evening.
Shannonside FM will have full live coverage of both games.
