Longford Slashers manager Liam Keenan is targeting the Longford SFC quarter-finals and doesn’t care how.
Slashers are fifth in the Peter Hanley Motors Longford SFC group one. One place outside the quarter-final spots with one game to play.
Mostrim face Slashers on Saturday evening in a winner takes all clash. Mostrim are third with four points. A Slashers victory would them to five points.
Clonguish meet Granard who have already qualified for the next phase. A draw would be enough to secure a quarter-final spot for Clonguish.
“First and foremost you want to get out of the group” explained Slashers boss Keenan. “To get into a quarter-final. If you have that luxury of doing that early, you can go chasing that”.
“But to us now that doesn’t matter” added Keenan. ”We just want out of the group and let’s see what happens over the next week”.
Slashers came back from a four point half-time deficit to draw 1-11 apiece with Dromard on Friday night. The result kept the championship hopes alive.
Slashers themselves have registered just one win in the championship this season. That came against wiping boys Ballymahon.
A score difference of just plus 18 this championship with the for column reading 72. It’s an area where Sheehan believes his side must improve on.
“One of the things we have been trying to correct over the last while is that our conversion rate isn’t as high as it should be” explained Keenan.
“We have some very talented footballers, very skilful footballers but we left some scores behind us today which have been disappointing”.
